We believe in smart cuts rather than short cuts – and we certainly had to pull out a few on this church renovation.
The budget was tight and was never going to flex sufficiently to accommodate the curtain walling that it seemed to require at first sight.
We got the calculators out and went back to the drawing board. Working closely with the client we managed to bring this job in under budget by cleverly avoiding the apparent need for curtain walling.
Our final design included commercial aluminium screens, doors and bi-fold doors. It used a variety of shaped frames, which we tailored to modernise the building whilst still maintaining the church’s traditional feel.
We even found room in the budget for some gorgeous lead details and beautiful, high-specification, coloured and solar-reflective glass units.
Which all goes to show that sometimes a step backward can bring you several leaps forward.
