Welwyn Grange
Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire

Arcura delivered a mixed material glazing package for the Welwyn Grange residential care home, working alongside Seafield Construction to meet both performance and aesthetic requirements.

The scheme was predominantly PVC‑U, with the windows finished in a specially coated colour to suit the design intent. In addition, a number of aluminium elements were incorporated, including bifold doors, fire exit doors, and entrance doors featuring louvre panels.

Acoustic performance was a key consideration, particularly at ground floor level where high specification laminated glazing was installed to achieve the required noise control and security standards. The overall package provided a consistent appearance across the building while supporting long term durability and ease of maintenance.

The project presented several site specific challenges, including corner window details that required bespoke flashing solutions developed on site. Waterproofing was a particular focus, especially around door thresholds and interfaces, where some openings were found to be out of level. Arcura worked closely with the wider project team to resolve these issues through practical detailing and careful installation.
Despite logistical constraints such as restricted access, traffic management, and short notice changes, the project was delivered successfully.

Arcura remained flexible and responsive, carrying out additional waterproofing works where required and adapting to evolving site conditions, resulting in a compliant, high quality finish that met the needs of both the client and end users.
